5 Marketing Blogs You MUST Read (even if you suffer from TMI)

October 27, 2015   Posted By Loren Meck

As B2B marketers, we all have one thing in common: We suffer from TMI.

Too. Much. Information. TMI 3
(Can I get an ‘Amen!’)

I’m the first to admit, I too feel the pressure to keep up with constant changes and developments that impact B2B marketers and everything associated with inbound marketing, sales, social media, etc. After all, if you don’t keep up, you’re left behind.

So, for starters, here’s my tip for cutting through the TMI clutter: I have a personal goal to UNSUBSCRIBE from one blog each month.

Yep. You heard me right. UNSUBSCRIBE.

Because I’m a consummate content scanner looking for those valuable gems of wisdom, I’m subscribed to more blog emails than you can shake a stick at. There’s a TON of great information out there to be perused. I have tremendous respect for the many thought leaders and influencers who have reached me through the ideas they have shared through their blogs.

So, as I scan their blog emails from week to week, month to month, if I find their content isn’t providing me with valuable, relevant insights, CLICK goes the unsubscribe link. (I’ll explain my elimination process in more detail in a future blog post.)

Let’s get to the good stuff. Here are five marketing-related blogs that, depending on your individual needs, are worthy of your consideration.

  • Seth Godin – Don’t know who Seth is? Have you been hiding under a rock? I became aware of Seth through his books Purple Cow, Linchpin, Unleashing the Idea Virus and All Marketers are Liars Tell Stories. If I don’t have all his books in my virtual library, it’s only because I can’t keep up with him. Go read his blogs. Now. They’re typically short, relevant, and like a hammer to the head (of a nail).

  • Web Ink Now!  – David Meerman Scott, author of News Jacking provides useful insights and observations that frequently prove immediately actionable, especially for marketing and PR professionals. I’ve had lots of light bulb moments while reading David’s musings.

  • Social Media Examiner  – Promoted as ‘Your guide to the social media jungle’ (and it IS a jungle), I find these email updates are easy to scan for information relevant to my needs and frequently incorporate links to valuable premium content. Hey, nearly 250K subscribers can’t be wrong.

  • Dave Kurlan’s Blog: Understanding the Sales Force – Although my focus and background is on marketing, I’ve found it very useful to understand the minds of sales professionals. After all, they’re the ones in the trenches and what we do as marketers has to work for them. ‘nuff said!

Last but not least, the HubSpot Inbound Marketing blog(s). Granted, the Goldstein Group is a HubSpot VAR so you might think my judgment a bit clouded. Not so. I was a devoted HubSpot blog reader long before I was a user or a GGC team member. (Just ask my buddy Ryan Ball over there in Ireland. He will tell you.) I have been a voracious consumer of their highly informative content for (almost) as long as they’ve been around. In recent months, they’ve lovingly segmented their Inbound Hub content into the following:

Go ahead. Take a gander at all that content. I have no doubt you’ll find some great stuff there – and most likely one or more of the answers you’ve been looking for.

While other blog and e-newsletter subscriptions have come and gone, these have withstood the test of time in the age of TMI.

What are some of your personal favorites?

Stay Awhile
